How I work
Everyone is different, and every counselling journey is different. Essentially I am providing a 'safe space' and the opportunity to be listened to without judgement. Counselling is a collaborative process in which we will work with what you bring, so I am not going to just sit silently the whole way through.
My approach is relational, that means I see the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist as key. As a psychodynamic practitioner I am interested in unconscious processes that shape thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, and yes, I will pay attention to your past. But I am not wedded to one theory; I use concepts boroughed from different theoretical approaches, depending on what the issue is we are talking about.
I often see people for longer-term support or open-ended therapy, but if it's more appropriate we can agree a number of sessions and a focus for our work at the beginning.
